Mullin - Ethos Week 3

Would you have Lance Armstrong coach your child to cycle competitively?

Lance Armstrong is formerly one of the most revered road racing cyclists of all time. He was best known for his seven consecutive Tour de France winnings. From the beginning he had very notable racing wins. In 1996 he became ranked as the number one cyclist in the world. People would pay any amount of money for him to be their child’s coach. Who wouldn’t want the number one cyclist in the world coaching their kid how to cycle competitively?
However in more recent years, Lance was accused of taking performance-enhancing drugs. It has come up more than once in his career of cycling, the use of drugs to win. With knowing this, about his possible drug usage, would you let him teach coach your child to cycle competitively? Would you let him coach your kid on how to race, how to have the endurance to win?

Again, his possible drug use has come up. This time it has torn his cycling career to shreds. He was brought to court in June 2012 and was banned from cycling for life and was he stripped of his seven Tour de France titles. There are eyewitness reports on him using and trying to get teammates to use the drugs all the way back from the mid nineties. He even went so far as to admitting to the use in an interview with Oprah Winfrey. He was an amazing cyclist, but was that really what he could do? With the drugs in his system, what was the real extent of his hard work? Would you let him bring your kid into the world of competitive cycling?
