Advertisement: GoldieBlox & Rube Goldberg "Princess Machine" (YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIGyVa5Xftw)

GoldieBlox is a toy marketed towards young girls to introduce them to engineering at an early age. The specific video that I watched focused on three little girls and a Rube Goldberg machine they built that goes all the way around their house until it finally comes back to change the channel on their television. The emotion that this advertisement brings the surface is a sense of wonder because the machine is fantastic in it design and all that it does. Another emotion that comes to mind is a sense of empowerment. The commercial is designed to make girls feel as if they can do anything (even become an engineer), and this message really comes across well in the commercial. Lastly, I felt happy when watching this because the girls look like they are having so much fun and the colors used on the machine are all so bright and girly.

  1. I will readily admit that the marketers for Goldie Blox have been enormously successful in their ad campaigns -- as Ava received her first Goldie Blox set for Christmas. They do a great job in appealing to desire for empowerment in girls!
