Earlier this year, Microsoft launched
an advertisement titled “Empowering Us All”, which demonstrates not only how
advanced technology has become, but the power it has to transform lives. People
suffering from disabilities are beginning to be able to perform a wide variety
of functions, thanks to the development of aids such as prosthetics and vocal
communicators. Technology has mastered unimaginable feats, such as bringing
humans to outer space. Microsoft uses key words like “hope” and “unite”, and
even the title of the ad, “empowering”, as Pathos to portray technology in a
positive way, which grabs attention and evokes these feelings amongst the
audience. People desire to establish good connections and to be united with
those not physically close to them, and worldwide communication is faster and
easier than ever before. Proof of the improvements in the quality of life, and
the growing confidence that these improvements will continue, is one way that
consumers are sold to the overall concept of technology, and thus to Microsoft.
That is so interesting, how Microsoft is able to connect itself as a key facet of technology. The advertisement also seems to "sell" the idea of progress, by showing all of the advancements made by technology. Good pick!
